After a brisk walk from The Wildbirch Hotel to our tour meeting point, we found ourselves in need of a quick, local breakfast before embarking on our From Anchorage: Alaska Wildlife Center & Turnagain Arm Tour by Alaska’s Finest Tours and Adventures. Resisting the pull of a corporate chain, I was thrilled to discover Urban Wilderness, the charming cafe that shares a footprint with Alaska’s Finest Tours and Adventures.
The menu immediately sparked my curiosity, particularly the Blueberry White Mocha caught my eye.
And then I saw it – the meat that exited me. I asked the staff member about the Reindeer Biscuit Sliders which I paired with an order of Reindeer Biscuit Sliders. The staff member showed me the single biscuit topped with a reindeer sausage patty – a true Alaskan “happy meal.”
While the reindeer meat was a bit more subtle in flavor than what I had experienced at Crimson, it was a solid, satisfying choice. After all, how often do you get to start your day with local reindeer sausage? As the rest of our tour group trickled in, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the series of small discoveries that led to such a perfect, authentic start to our adventure.
