The Warming Hut

An extended lunch at The Warming Hut served me delicious comfort food, beer and cocktails in Mammoth Lakes, California

After waking up at 3am to head to Death Valley National Park during a reasonable hour, I was excited to meet up with Deja for lunch in Mammoth Lakes. She’d led the Guided Sunset Snowshoe Tour with Tamarack Cross-Country Ski Center event that I’d done earlier in the year, in Mammoth Lakes. We’d quickly cultivated a social relationship online – which made me exceptionally eager to see her offline.

From a list of suggestions she gave me, I picked The Warming Hut. I’m so glad I did.

Mammoth Lakes in the summer was a stark contrast to the late winter landscape. As Deja and I exchanged greetings and hugs, I felt a strong sense of profound excitement.

The Warming Hut was – simply put – cozy, modern and a great place to spend time.

I ordered THE REUBEN (Our slow-cooked corned beef, sauerkraut, Gruyere Swiss cheese, and house-made thousand island dressing sandwiched between two pieces of grilled rye bread). I devoured it with a pint of June Lake Brewing’s HOCKEY FIGHT (6.3% – Hazy IPA).

The savory combo was the perfect backdrop to our lively conversation.

What I truly loved about The Warming Hut is that not only do they serve food in a relaxed atmosphere – but they have great drinks as well. An order of the CORPSE REVIVER NO.2  (St. George Botanivore gin, lemon juice, Cointreau, Lillet Blanc, and a spritz of Absinthe).

Before I knew it, three hours had passed with the snap of a finger – and it was time for me to check into my stay at Outbound Mammoth.

But another aspect I loved about my lunch with Deja is how she pushed me to take a drive to Lake Mary. The vistas I captured along the way? As priceless as the time we spent together.

An extended lunch at The Warming Hut was the prefect spot to chill, relax and enjoy the afternoon in Mammoth Lakes, California.
