The Living Room

After a morning of traveling and driving, I settled into the Ritz Carlton, Lake Tahoe with ease. But, as with what happens in my life, my to do list started creeping up on me. So, after a light rest, I decided to have a working lunch, table of one.

Fortunately, I didn’t have to go far. The Living Room was a simple elevator ride away.

Now, I usually try and step clear of hotel restaurants. Frankly, I always know  the prices were going to be high AF. But, in this case, I simply did not want to worry about choosing a place to go in Truckee or further down in Lake Tahoe South. Instead, I wanted to be enveloped by the mountain and the view while being close to my room.

The Living Room Lodge was exceptionally gorgeous. The floor to ceiling windows were stunning. And even better?  Because the season was in transition from winter business into spring, it was close to being empty.

So, I took pleasure in sitting in a large table, by the window. It was a pleasure to take up space and luxuriate.

For lunch, I began with a glass of Cloudly Bay’s 2023 Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand. This was bright, fruity and inviting on the tongue. Plus, it was much cheaper than getting a mixed cocktail, to be honest.

For lunch, I ordered the FREE-RANGE CHICKEN SANDWICH (Crisp Chicken, House Made Focaccia, Mixed Greens, Tomato, Ricotta and Mushroom Duxelles, Garlic Aioli).

Since it was a working lunch, I found joy in glancing up from my screen to take in the sweeping landscape just beyond the window. As clouds drifted in, I took measured bites of my sandwich, savoring both the food and the view.

Thankfully, the staff understood the assignment: attentive without being intrusive. They let me be – only reappearing when I signaled I was ready to box my meal and settle the bill.

That quiet respect for a guests? That’s luxury.
