St. Vito Focacceria

St. Vito Focacceria blends sfincione pizzas with modern Italian-American fare in the Gulch district of Nashville, Tennessee

After a wonderful introduction to Nashville nightlife at Chopper Tiki Bar, it was time for dinner. Ogden suggested we go to his favorite pizza place, St. Vito Focacceria. After visiting their website and seeing the focaccia bread, I was immediately hungry. It looked incredible.

Arriving, we were seated and got to work combing the menu. In a rare show of trust, I gave Ogden full choice in deciding what we’d savor.

Our pre dinner snacks arrived first. The Focaccia (oregano, garlic, fennel pollen) and the Ricotta (pistachio, olio verde) were absolutely perfect.

But the main event duo of the evening was the slices of sfincione. Sfincione is Sicily’s answer to pizza – but fluffier, bolder, and unapologetically its own thing. Imagine a thick, spongy bread base piled high with toppings. Baked in big rectangular pans and cut into squares, it’s street food comfort at its finest.

I didn’t end up having it during my trip to Sicily. But, enjoying it in Nashville, Tennessee was just as good.

The POTATO (potato cream, roasted potato, lemon) and the PEPPERONI (ezzo pepperoni, chili flake, agrodolce) were stunning. I immediately wanted to find a spot just like St. Vito Focacceria – in Los Angeles.

As we talked and savored the space, I just felt such a sense of awe about the Nashville food scene. And as we settled the tab and left to our next adventure, I greatly appreciated how saying hello to a new friend in Mexico City led to a fantastic night out in Nashville, Tennessee.
