Skadi Restaurant delivers a refined, Scandinavian-inspired dining experience in an cozy alpine setting in Mammoth Lakes, California

When I was recommended Skadi as a top-tier restaurant in Mammoth Lakes, my curiosity was instantly piqued. Having dined at Noma and experienced the exceptional cuisine of Copenhagen, Denmark, I was eager to see if a restaurant in Mammoth Lakes could deliver the same attention to detail and quality.

In my opinion, there’s something special about truly well executed Scandinavian cuisine. It shifts your entire American based perspective on food. You begin to understand that simplicity can often be the most powerful expression of flavor. Indeed, less – can be more.

Making a reservation was a breeze. I simply texted the number listed on their website and secured a solo seat at the chef’s bar, perfectly positioned to watch the magic unfold.

On the day of my reservation, I first savored my time at Outbound Mammoth. I enjoyed a complimentary taste of wine next to the fireplace, before walking to Skadi.

I actually enjoyed the brisk cold mountain air. I felt it grounded me, making each step felt like part of a journey toward something special.

As I arrived at the Empeiria High Sierra Hotel and checked in for my reservation, I was immediately struck by the ambiance. The restaurant had the Scandinavian chic aesthetic I was hoping for. The design and atmosphere instantly transported me back to Denmark and Sweden, surrounded by Nordic-inspired touches that felt both refined and welcoming. Skadi felt cozy, comfortable and warm – exactly what I wanted for dinner.

Sitting at the bar, I had a front-row seat to an elegant performance of culinary precision. Pans clinked, sauces simmered, and plates were artfully assembled just feet away from my eyes.

With anticipation, I browsed the menu and quickly made my selections for the evening.

While savoring each bite, I enjoyed watching the latest episode of The White Lotus on my phone. It was dinner and a show, with delicious food paired with delicious drama.

One of the highlights of the evening was that Chef Ian T.N. Algeroen personally came by to check in on me a few times. I genuinely appreciated the gesture, especially when he placed the beautiful Gateau Financier before me. Truly, it was lovely evening of delicious moments of oral flavor.

I left no crumbs behind.

After finishing my meal, I warmly thanked the staff and made my way back to Outbound Mammoth. The walk felt just as peaceful as before, and I was more than ready to tuck into a cozy sleep before the next day’s adventure.
