Shelter Distilling

Dinner at Shelter Distilling was a fun, high energy time and a nice way to experience Mammoth Village in Mammoth Lakes, California

After an invigorating experience during the Guided Sunset Snowshoe Tour with Tamarack Cross-Country Ski Center, our guide, Deja, highly recommended the food at Shelter Distilling – rather than going to the conveniently named Mammoth Brewing Company and Taproom.

Now, I did NOT expect it to be so packed. But, only an hour prior, I found out that Elevation: Mammoth was happening during the same weekend of our stay. Luckily, I usually have incredibly good luck with finding parking and seats in situations. So, as Shelter Distilling is seating on a first come first serve situation, my eagle eyes found seats in short order.

Now, I will say, it was incredibly busy during the Elevation: Mammoth weekend. The place was packed. However, it was incredibly fun to sit in the midst of it.

Ordering is through QR codes at the table via Toast. There are no service staff to interact with. Just people that deliver your food and clear the table.

Honestly, with volume, it’s understandable.

Due to the weather, I immediately ordered a HOT TODDY (American Single Malt Whiskey, Lemon, Honey, Ginger) with the WARM PRETZEL ROLL (House IPA mustard and white cheddar cheese sauce).

For dinner, I ordered the THE HONEYDUDE (Small Batch Blue Corn Bourbon, Honey Dew, Lemon, Honey, Bitters) and the SMASHBURGER (100% fresh beef, white American cheese, onion, tomato, romaine, pickles, and High Sierra Whiskey Burger Sauce on a brioche bun. Served with chips.)

All came out, as they were prepared. Overall, I went with the vibe and focused on relaxing and enjoying the music. The burger was filling, the drinks were good.

Would I have had a better time at Mammoth Brewing Company? I doubt it.

I truly loved eating at distilleries and enjoying local booze, crafted into drinks and fare.

Plus, it was wonderful to get ice cream from Hugs Ice Cream afterward, to enjoy back at a fire pit at the hotel.
