Salsa's Taqueria in Mammoth Lakes, CA offers solid Mexican cuisine within a casual and relaxed mountain town atmosphere
After an exhilarating afternoon on Mammoth Mountain during my snowboarding lesson, I found myself sharing a gondola ride back to Mammoth Village with a group of friendly snowboarders. Naturally, the topic of food came up – because that’s who I am. When I asked for recommendations, one of the guys thought for a moment and pipped up: “Salsa’s. It’s really good. At least I liked it.”
That was all the encouragement I needed.
The next morning, we decide to head to Salsa’s, after checking out of our stay at Outbound Mammoth. Interestingly, I’d spotted Salsa’s the night before while having dinner at Distant Brewing, as the two are just steps away from each other.
Walking into Salsa’s, we were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. It felt cozy, like a neighborhood Mexican restaurant without the pretense.
The menu had some enticing options. I settled on the AMERICAN STYLE BURRITO (asada, cheese, beans, rice, onion, cilantro, tomato, guacamole, lettuce and sour cream wrapped in a flour tortilla) and the HORCHATA (rice milk, cinnamon).
When my burrito arrived, it was exactly what I wanted. I was able to flavor it with salt, pepper and provided hot sauces.

The horchata was sweet and creamy with just the right hint of cinnamon. It was the perfect companion to wash down the burrito.
What I loved most about Salsa’s was the genuine, unpretentious vibe that instantly made me feel at home. The atmosphere wasn’t flashy or overdone—it was warm and welcoming, like a favorite neighborhood spot where it’s easy to pick something delicious every week.

The food wasn’t just solid—it carried a sense of comfort that extended beyond the flavors. It was exactly what I needed before our final adventure of the weekend: the mountain coaster at Woolly’s Adventure Summit .
