Early in the evening during my night in Montreal, I had my heart set on going to Frite Alors!. But, a few beers in at Messorem Bracitorium and I was losing interest in rushing over to the closest location that was open until 11pm.
While I sipped my last beer, a thought popped in my head. What if - instead of spending another Lyft cost on going to Frite Alors! and then heading back to Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile - I just split the difference and get poutine delivered to the hotel via Uber Eats? I wanted to relax and write. So, why not do it in my gorgeous hotel room?
The solution was clear.
As I returned to my hotel, I was excited. I asked the concierge what spot he recommended for a poutine delivery at 10pm. Amuzingly, it was the exact place that a Canadian border patrol agent had recommended – earlier in the afternoon. La Banquise.
As I sat within the hotel’s comfortable lobby, I opened up Uber Eats and got to ordering. Within moments, I’d selected the La Classique (poutine with fries, cheese and BBQ sauce) and added bacon.
This was the most classic of classic poutines.
When it arrived, I asked RENOIR Restaurant, the hotel’s restaurant, for cutlery. When I returned to my room, I felt a deep, beautiful sense of relief for – finally – reaching my goal of having poutine in Montreal.
And honestly, it was everything I thought it would be – cozy, comfortable and a solid way to end to my few days spent in Vermont and Quebec.
