It’s safe to say that 2025 was the winter of learning how to snowboard. As I’d signed up for the Level 2 Full Day Snowboarding Class at Copper Mountain during a winter visit to Denver, Colorado, I didn’t want to snow up and have that day be the first time on my board for the season. I wanted to grow what I learned during the previous season - and tackle what I didn’t know to get used to it.
So, when I saw a class special come up for Virtual Snow, I immediately remembered my previous lesson at their Santa Monica Location (Indoor Snowboarding Lesson at Virtual Snow LA) I immediately purchased a class and booked it for the Virtual Snow location at Sports LTD in Woodland Hills.

Arrival and Checking In
Finding parking in the Valley is MUCH easier than parking in Santa Monica. So, once I found parking off of Ventura Blvd, I walked into Sports LTD and asked where to go for the Virtual Snow class. They pointed me next door, to where the boats were stored for sale. I was – deeply amused.

But, there was the familiar single treadmill and the Virtual Snow logo, located in the back left of the room.
I took a deep breath. It was time to lock in it.

The Lesson: Snowboarding Basics on a Treadmill
As I climbed up on the treadmill and got into the harness system again, it felt – familiar. My guide started the treadmill on the lowest level, and I felt my body find center. Turns out, muscle memory is a thing. We went over the basics:
❄️ Heel Side Slipping and Stopping
🏂 Directional Slip (Falling Leaf)
🎿 Toe Side Slipping and Stopping
🏔️ Toe Side Direction Slip
And I quickly realized that I’m much more comfortable than I thought while doing heel slide slipping and stopping. I was so proud of myself. However, the toe side of things? That was something that I could focus on while on the mountain.

I also realized how much WORK an indoor snowboarding lesson at Virtual Snow is. Before I knew it, I was sweating.
But it was worth it. I was so proud of myself for all that I’d learned and what my body remembered.
Overall
Overall, taking a pre-lesson at Virtual Snow inside Sports LTD was absolutely the right call. My confidence noticeably increased, and with every drill I completed and remembered, I found myself quietly celebrating the progress. It reconnected me to how my body moves and responds when I’m strapped into my board. Which is something I can’t fake on the mountain.
Booking that refresher before heading to Copper Mountain allowed me to arrive focused. Instead of arriving and hoping muscle memory would kick in, I showed up prepared – secure on my heel side fundamentals and fully aware of where my toe side still needs attention. Which is exactly what I desired.
