Howlin’ Ray’s – Pasadena

What I appreciate about meeting Carla for lunch is the continued connection that we have, outside of real estate. As she’s a seasoned agent, I’ve always loved gaining insight into storied career while also just walking about the topics du jour.

For this particular lunch, it was her time to pick. As she’d had a craving for hot Nashville style chicken, she picked Howlin’ Rays.

Now, I remember when Howlin’s Rays first entered into the Los Angeles hot chicken scene. It was the first and the best. I remember standing in line at their first location in Chinatown for close to 3 hours.

And I did it again, later. It was that good.

When a location was opened in Pasadena, I was ecstatic. I had a few orders during lock down. But, the to go location really didn’t have the same vibe as the original location.

But this new Pasadena location? Everything I could want. The space was beautiful and full of natural light. Most importantly? The line was shorter than Carla and I expected.

After looking at the menu, I ordered THE SANDO (boneless breast, slaw, comeback sauce, pickles, butter bun (Medium). I also order the SHAKE FRIES because – I can’t imagine having a fried chicken sandwich without fries.
I finished it out with PICKLES, COMEBACK SAUCE and a can of SWEET PEACH TEA.

Overall, lunch was absolutely delicious. I loved how crunchy and packed with flavor the sandwich was. It was better than my memories – because I didn’t need to wait 3 hours for it.
