Glacier Brewhouse

Glacier Brewhouse is a lively downtown brewpub offering distinct beers and hearty Alaskan fare

I am always eager to sample local brewery fare, especially in a place as unique as Alaska. After an afternoon at the Anchorage Museum, Onnik and I made the short walk to Glacier Brewhouse for a restorative lunch and a flight of local beers.

To start, we shared the ALASKAN SMOKED SALMON DIP (Alder smoked Alaska sockeye salmon, lightly dressed with greek yogurt, lemon zest, capers, and dill – served with Rustic Spent Grain bread and sweet pickle chips).

For my beverage flight, I opted for a Winter Warmer selection (Pineapple Coconut Gosé, Raspberry Wheat, Birch Saison, Winter Märzen, Chocolate Cherry Porter). I switched out the Winter Märzen for FAIR-ly Hazy Dayz IPA. This flight provided a solid, refreshing overview of the local craft scene.

For our main, we split the ROTISSERIE RANCH PIZZA (Alder smoked rotisserie chicken, parmesan cream sauce, 3 cheese blend, chopped bacon, roasted garlic, red onions, tomatoes, ranch).

While the food was solid, the highlight was the conversation with our server. She offered a fascinating glimpse into Alaskan life, describing the realities of hunting and processing polar bear meat. When I asked about the most unusual dish she’d ever enjoyed, she fondly recalled her grandmother’s traditional seal preparations.

Lunch at Glacier Brewhouse was a perfect blend of hearty comfort food and the kind of unique local storytelling that makes connection and conversation so rewarding.
