Distant Brewing in Mammoth Lakes, California, offers a rotating selection of craft beers and inspired pub-style dishes in a relaxed setting with scenic surroundings
After a solid afternoon of learning how to snowboard during my Adult Snowboarding School class at Mammoth Mountain, it was time to think about beer and dinner. My snowboarding instructor, Alex, dropped a golden recommendation when I asked him for his favorite spot in Mammoth for beer: “A bunch of instructors usually go to Distant Brewing.” His description of the local Mammoth Lakes spot, promised great vibes, solid beers, and some delicious bites for dinner. So, after getting down the mountain and returning back to Outbound Mammoth to change, we were on our way.
Distant Brewing greeted me with a cozy, laid-back atmosphere – bustling with locals and visitors alike. We got a dog friendly seat outside and I went inside to order.

Browsing the menu was a delight as I spotted several beers that immediately caught my eye. I decided to curate a flight with: SKY PILLOW (Hazy IPA – Signature Hazy IPA with Citra, Simcoe & Motueka hops – 6.5%ABV), INTO THE DANK (West Coast IPA – 6.8% ABV), BLACK DOUBT (Imperial Stout – Imperial Stout with Peanut Butter and Cinnamon – 9.8% ABV), DARKEST MOUNTAIN (Double Baked Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout – 11.4% ABV).
To complement the beers, we shared the CHIPS WITH SALSA GUAC (tortilla chips with red salsa, salsa verde, pico de gallo and guacamole) and SOFT PRETZEL (pretzels and beer cheese).

For the main course, we opted for two half orders of their specialty cauliflower crust pizzas. The HOT HONEY PEPPERONI PIZZA (cauliflower pizza crust with pizza sauce, mozzarella/provolone blend, pepperoni & hot honey) and the BUFFALO CHICKEN (cauliflower pizza crust with ranch, mozzarella/provolone blend, chicken, red onion bacon bits and buffalo sauce) hit exceptionally well on a chilly mountain night.

Distant Brewing truly delivered on every front that I desired. The beers were thoughtfully crafted, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere felt like a warm hug after a fun afternoon in the snow.
