The Comedy Cellar in Las Vegas brings a taste of New York's iconic comedy scene to the Strip
What can I say, I love a good comedy show. The one thing that visiting Comedy Mothership in Austin taught me (besides increasing my standards on what I consider comedy) was to only book shows that have their comedians published. Luckily, that was the case with the Comedy Cellar.
Now, during my recent time in Manhattan, I had the intent of going to The Jazz Club at the Aman New York and then heading downtown and hitting up The Comedy Cellar. However, one thing led to another and I found myself in Harlem for dinner at Clay and then more jazz at Room 623.
Now, I did see a great line up of comics at a show in Toronto. But still, it was the principle of seeing a comedy show at the Comedy Cellar that I wanted to check off my list.

Now, the Rio is very much off the Strip. Parking and rushing over to the venue, I was a little – shocked – by how dead it seemed. But, I wasn’t there to look at the shell of a casino. I was there for a comedy show. So, after a quick check in, I was led to a seat, eager for what was to come.
Mark Cohen (From “Louie”, “The Sarah Silverman Program”, Comedy Central), led the show with a wonderful tempo.
Aminah Imani (Just For Laughs New Faces, From “Inside Amy Shumer”, Flatbush Misdemeanors, Up Early Tonight, Comedy Central) was funny from the moment she took the mike. She had a great presence and – most importantly, funny jokes.
Reggie Conquest (From Fox’s “Animal Control”. HBO’s Insecure, HBO MAX’s That Damn Michael Che, Pause With Sam Jay, Comedy Central) was on a roll. He serve hit after hit of peak deadpan humor.
Alex Kumin (Comedy Central, NBC Breakout Fest, Gilda’s Laughfest Best Of The Midwest) was also great.
Dennis Blair (From The Tonight Show, HBO, Co-Wrote The Movie “Easy Money”) closed out the set with a music bit with his guitar and audience participation. It was unique – but still was humorous.
After the bullshit of enduring Comedy Mothership in Austin, it was a pleasure to have such an awesome line up of comics at a professionally run show. Not to mention, the same level of humor found in New York – in Las Vegas. Without a minimum order requirement from a server during the show.
A visit to the Comedy Cellar Las Vegas worth it to just have a great time, full of actually funny comedians, off strip.
