Casita

Casita in Sherman Oaks serves modern Mexican small plates and inventive cocktails in a stylish, Tulum-inspired setting

It had been far too long since I’d seen Justine. I’d absolutely loved our last meals together  – dinner at Bar Étoile and that dreamy rooftop lunch at OpenAire. But after a few months, it was definitely time for another long-overdue catch-up.

A quick search led me to Casita, a gorgeous Mexican spot in Sherman Oaks. The restaurant looked promising and the menu looked good. So, we agreed to meet on a gorgeous Saturday morning for brunch.

Street parking was a breeze on the side street. As soon as I stepped inside, I fell in love with the vibe. It felt like a slice of Tulum transported straight into the Valley. It felt breezy, warm and effortlessly stylish.

Once I sat down, our server, Brian, introduced himself to me. He was fantastic. He guided me through the menu and helped me pick the perfect starter before Justine arrived.

Once we were both seated, we got into some things….

We started with the GUACAMOLE (avocado, citrus, onion, chile) and SALSAS (habanero ranchero, jicama-avocado pico, chipotle, verde, casita). I absolutely LOVED the presentation of this on the lazy susan. Being able to easily turn the platter to get to what I wanted – from the salsas to the guacamole, was fantastic.

The SPICY PASSION FRUIT MARGARITA (blanco tequila, passion fruit, citrus, chile, chamoy) was delicious.

Next up, the KUMAMOTO OYSTERS (cucumber, cilantro, casita hot sauce).

And because he was an absolute darling of a human, Brian celebrated our first time at Casita with a complimentary order of the YELLOWTAIL CRUDO (diced chile, ginger, garlic, yuzu soy).

The tacos, the tacos …. THE TACOS! We started with the PORK BELLY (salsa macha, pickled onion).

Then came the CARNE ASADA (guacamole, onion).

And we finished with the CRISPY FISH (chipotle slaw, jicama-avocado salsa).

And then – because it was my birthday month – Brian surprised us with the most delicious strawberry shortcake and ice cream dessert.

Devouring it with Justine actually made me late for my massage at The Now, but it was more than worth it. I loved the sparkler and the kindness.

Overall, my lunch at Casita was the perfect vibe of coastal luxurious Mexican charm – with delicious food – in the San Fernando Valley.
