Cannonball in South Pasadena offers exceptional modern American cuisine, craft cocktails, and an extensive whiskey selection

Catching up with Christine at Groundfloor after a few months was an absolute joy. When I asked her about any new spots she was loving, she didn’t hesitate – Cannonball in Pasadena topped her list.

When I arrived, Matt was already there with a pour of Korean whiskey, KI ONE UNICORN waiting for me. It was smoky and earthy and – just good.

To follow up, I ordered the THUNDERBIRD MARTINI (gin, blanc vermouth, house pickled onion, twist).

The SHAVED CELERY SALAD (medjool dates, walnuts, mint, piave vecchio) arrived first. It was bright, refreshing, and texturally perfect.

Next up, was the HERITAGE FARMS PORK POTSTICKERS (ginger garlic chili sauce).

Our order of FLAKY BUTTERMILK BISCUITS (honey butter) arrived and was absolutely incredible. It was honestly unsettling how outrageously good they were. They were lightly firm on the outside, steamy and fragrant on the inside and irresistible. The honey butter was exquisite.

And just when we thought the night couldn’t get better, our BARBECUED 8OZ. PRIME NY STEAK (bordelaise sauce, pommes aligot) and CRISPY FRENCH FRIES (ketchup, aïoli) arrived, we were absolutely floored.

The steak left us speechless. It was that delicious.

“I miss you already, Matt,” I remember saying as we hugged goodbye.

But, Rochester is only a plane ride away.
