Breckenridge Distillery, the world's highest distillery, produces whiskey, vodka and more and offers engaging tours and tastings - in Breckenridge, Colorado
There’s something magical about being in the right place at the right time. After wrapping up my Adult Group Snowboarding Lesson at Breckenridge Resort, my instructor Ryan casually suggested I check out the Breckenridge Distillery. He’d piqued my interest with talk of their whiskey aged in wine barrels—something that always hits a soft spot for me.
Back at Hotel Alpenrock Breckenridge, I ran the idea by a couple of the valet guys. Their reaction? Pure enthusiasm. They raved about the selection, and especially the tastings.
A quick, complimentary shuttle ride later (dropped off right by the Helly Hansen store – super easy walk around), and I was heading into the distillery.

As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by David, my tasting host for the evening. He was warm, attentive, incredibly knowledgeable, and honestly just the perfect person to introduce me to Breckenridge Distillery’s lineup.
And yes – I tasted a lot.

The standout for me was the Breckenridge Whiskey PX Cask Finish. I ended up taking a bottle home. David taught me that PX stands for Pedro Ximénez, a sweet sherry wine. That finish? So velvety and lush and sexy. For me, a good whiskey should feel like sex in your mouth. Otherwise, why drink it?
David also went above and beyond by charging my phone and keeping the vibes high with great conversation. My time at Breck Distillery didn’t just felt like an extended tasting. It felt like a cozy, snowy experience of sipping amid community.
I loved it so much I lingered at the bar for hours, chatting not only with David but also with fellow visitors and locals.
At one point, I complimented a woman on her stunning, large white dog, and we ended up in a full-blown discussion about her dating life. In another interaction, I found myself deep in a spirited conversation about Pliny the Younger and Van Winkle bourbons. You never know when those random bits of knowledge will come in handy – and this was one of those nights.

All in all, my time at Breckenridge Distillery was deliciously memorable. I left with a one of a kind whiskey to share with friends and a heart full of good memories.
For one night in Breckenridge, that’s all I could ever ask for.
