Amboy blends a retro butcher shop vibe with bold, flavorful burgers crafted from expertly aged beef

After such a phenomenal experience at Now Serving Bookstore with Top Chef’s Kristen Kish in conversation with Alyse Whitney to promote her book, “Accidentally on Purpose”, I was in dire need of food. As Amboy had been on my “to try” list for years – but I hadn’t gotten down to Chinatown for so long – it felt that it was perfect timing to walk the short distance for delicious, post event, dinner.

Walking in, I was in love with the vibe and design of the restaurant. It felt cozy, full of authentic tidbits that made the Los Angeles food scene vibrant.

And the prices? Just right for a casual night out.

I ordered a FANCY AMBOY BURGER (Slim Thicc style with garlic confit mayo, provolone cheese, caramelized onions, sliced pickles in our toasted signature sesame bun), SMALL FRIES with TRUFFLE AOLI and a soda.

As I sat and reflected on listening to Kristen speak, I had so many thoughts. The discussion profoundly resonated with me.

But, once the burger was placed in front of me, all my thoughts vanished. The only thing that remained was hunger.

The first bite of my burger tasted like literal magic. I could taste the quality in the meat blend and the ingredients. The taste was so distinct, so delicious, so mouthwatering good that I did not want to stop until I finished it all.  It was exceptionally delicious in every way possible. It felt like sex on a bun. I was enchanted, enraptured and fascinated by how good it was.

How had I not had this before? Where had it been all my life?

Just like the Now Serving bookstore, it was here – just waiting for me to visit.

After so much time spent talking and enjoying the conversation about food and life, it was an absolute pleasure to mark another desired location to try off my list.
