There is a very apt saying in Fes – never judge a place by the external wall. When our guide – Layla (Exploring Fes: The Royal Palace, Borj Sud, Chouara Tannery & More) walked us through the winding alleyways to Dar Alamia Restaurant, I had no idea what to expect.

When the door opened and our group was led inside – the only thing that immediately came to my mind was “what the …..”
Inside – behind the unassuming walls – was Dar Alamia Restaurant’s gorgeous restaurant.

Once we were seated, I took a look at the menu and quickly chose my lunch.
I went with Menu 6. Along with a non alcoholic Mojito (mint, lemon juice, sparkling water)

The Moroccan salads were a vibrant assortment of light, flavorful bites. Dishes of zucchini, carrots, beets, lentils, peppers, olives, and eggplant delivered all the tastes I’ve come to love and expect.

My Mixed Skewers (chicken, beef) hit the spot.

Lunch concluded with the Fruits of the Season, which included bananas, apples and grapes.

What I loved even more about the restaurant was the decor. Denise loved the smoking room – and I loved the design.

Overall, our stop at Dar Alamia’s restaurant was a much needed satisfying meal during a long day of exploring old Fes.
