I love it when a friend with good taste picks a restaurant for lunch. Which is why I trust Amanda, after so many years of us dining together. So, when she gave me a list of selections that fit my “Off the 405, on the Santa Monica side” request, I immediately gravitated toward Unetto Tokyo Pasta Factory.
Japanese Italian fusion?
Seemed like the perfect combination.

The restaurant looked homey and comfortable. Truly a solid spot for lunch. I ordered the CHICKEN KATSU CURRY (House made Japanese curry sauce, chicken katsu, parsley, parmigiano) with a SALAD and GREEN TEA. The curry dish was enough for two meals. Even better – how it tasted. It was creamy and packed with a distinct unami flavor.

Amanda and I also split the OCEAN JEWEL (toasted baguettes brushed with garlic butter, topped rich and savory sea urchin).
This dab of uni – actually got me to like sea urchin. I think previously, I didn’t like it because it’s always served piled high. Visually, to me, it tends to look over done. However, with the ocean jewel, I was able to truly taste the quality and deliciousness of the ocean through the uni.
I also tried Amanda’s Uni Cream Pasta (sea urchin) and it was by far some of the best pasta I’ve ever had. It was rich in taste, filling and packed with flavor.
Another thing that I love about Los Angeles is that the parking meters are all equipped with app payment options. So, as I’d already downloaded the Park Smarter app, it was a breeze to pay and maintain payment of my parking space, during the meal.
Overall, Unetto Tokyo Pasta Factory was a lovely spot for lunch. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was friendly and the price for lunch was perfectly reasonable for a meal on Sawtelle Blvd.
