Fuzion Bar & Grill

Fuzion Bar & Grill in Pincher Creek, Alberta, servers bold, vibrant flavors and a carefully crafted menu offering savory, spicy, and comforting dishes

After checking in at the Stardust Inn and Chalets, I was excited to try the on-site restaurant, Fusion Bar & Grill.

However, I learned by calling the front desk for an unrelated question that the restaurant would be closing earlier than the listed time. so, I adjusted my timeline for the evening and walked over.

In the lobby, I waited a little bit and was seated outside. But, the service outside was rather – spotty. I had to get up to find a server to alert them that I was ready to order. But, I relaxed in watching the gorgeous sunset over the horizon.

However, I waited a bit longer than I deemed necessary – and then walked inside and asked to be seated at a table.

When my order arrived, it came all at once. Which again – didn’t bother me because it was deliciously worth it.

The BUTTER CHICKEN (Tender chicken cooked in a gently spiced gravy with butter and cream with basmati rice and naan bread – Medium heat) was absolutely delicious. I devoured it.

It went well with my 16oz pour of  Oldman River Brewing Racehorse West Coast IPA.

Because I was literally walking to my chalet, I also ordered the PIONEER’S MULE (Lost Things Gin, Ginger Beer, Lime Juice, Simple Syrup, Orange Slice)

Settling the Bill

Some nights feel like a full-blown comedy of errors. All I wanted after paying my bill was a receipt. Since my server used a portable terminal, I assumed it would be easy. But it wouldn’t text my U.S. number without the country code.

So I asked for a printed copy. Simple enough – or so I thought. My server, new on the job, struggled because she didn’t know how to look up a past transaction. So, she passed me to another woman who could have benefited from lessons in service and technology. She came at me and accused the charge of not going through and kept scrolling through her terminal. Why? She was frazzled, stating that she couldn’t see the charge in her terminal.

She kept insisting it hadn’t gone through – until I showed her the pending charge on my American Express app. It was indisputable. The charge was right there.  Still, she kept scrolling and standing there – stating that she didn’t see it. That’s when my inner blunt American surfaced:

“I’m not handing you my card again.” I said ” The charge went through. In fact – I don’t even want the receipt anymore. Forget it – I’m going back to my chalet.”

I felt like this deer with a thousand mile stare. I was DONE.

Frustrated, she waved me off and disappeared into the kitchen. And I was left wondering what all that was about.

Honestly, the staff just needs better training on the payment systems that they use. I asked for a receipt and instead got a dog-and-pony show.

As I walked back to my chalet, I reflected on the evening. The food was delicious and it was convenient to have a restaurant on-site. However, the service hiccups made me grateful to be able to walk to my room and be alone.

I capped the night with the finale of And Just Like That… Better choices could’ve been made there too.

I overheard from another conversation that the following morning’s breakfast was closed to the public, due to a large breakfast that I assume was related to the Pincher Creek Pro Rodeo.

But that wasn’t problem at all; a quick stop at Tim Horton’s did the trick.

Overall, even though my experience at Fuzion Bar & Grill ended on a strange note – I still greatly enjoyed my dinner.
