Westbound and Down

Housed in a historic Idaho Springs landmark, Westbound and Down dishes up mouthwatering burgers and local craft beers in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado

After an invigorating time rafting 6 miles of Clear Creek with Liquid Decent River Rafting in Idaho Springs, it was time for a well earned lunch. After changing out of our wetsuits and heading out, it was only a matter of time before Rosemary and I arrived in Idaho Springs proper.

Heather, a former classmate from elementary school who now lived in Denver, suggested that I try out Westbound and Down while in Idaho Springs. As we had the afternoon ahead of us, we parked as close to the walkable Main Street as we could, before getting out and walking around.

Reaching Westbound and Down, I immediately loved the essence of the space. Rosemary and I sat down near one of the wide open windows, with views galore. It was the perfect scene in the Rocky Mountains.

To say I was starving would be an understatement. I ordered the WESTBOUND BEEF BURGER (Two Rugby Scott Beef Patties, Cheese, Burger Sauce, Tomato, Pickles) and Fries with Green Chili.

Rosemary and I split a beer tasting. I enjoyed generous pours of the WESTBOUND DOUBLE IPA (8.5% ABV -IPA – Imperial / Double – Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic, Nelson hop forward with a tropical fruit aroma. 2019 Great American Beer Festival® Silver medal winner) and JUICE CABOOSE (7.2% ABV -IPA – New England / Hazy – A hazy IPA dry-hopped with Idaho 7, Mosaic, and Strata, bursting with pineapple, Cara Cara orange, and mango candy notes).

This was – exceptional. I devoured it. There were no crumbs left. This was a life well lived.

When we were done, Rosemary and I walked around the town of Idaho Springs, enjoying the beautiful air and vistas of the Rocky Mountains.
